As part of the chairman’s challenge, a number of cyclists took shifts during the day to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research UK. The 12 hour journey began at 6am and ended at 6pm using two spin bikes. The day hosted a number of guests including Monmouth MP David Davies, Monmouth AM Nick Ramsay, county president of Gwent (YFC) Chris Lewis and many Usk young farmers, including aunt and niece team Emie and Chloe Howells.
Laura Bowyer, chairman of Usk Young Farmers, chose the charity as well as rallied the cyclists throughout the day. The ride raised £661.98 in cash for the charity as well as additional online donations that were still coming in after the end of the day.
Aunt and niece team Emie and Chloe Howells took shifts during the hotter parts of the day and praised the Usk YFC for their social events as an important part of the young farmers’ community.
During his stint Chris Lewis, Usk Young Farmers Clubs county president weighed in on backing British agriculture products, not just because of Brexit, but also because: "British produce is the best in the world and produced to the highest animal welfare standards in the world."
