MONMOUTH writer Mary Honeybone has penned a new novel after using her own life experiences as inspiration.

The biographical true story, "My Mocassins", takes readers into an unforgettable journey of self discovery followed by the ultimate breaking away from a restricted way of life.

The story highlights the plight of a family subjected to a regime of fundamentalism.

It also reflects the courage of the human spirit and the strength of the subject to survive and come through into normal society and function.

She said: "This book is full of the unexpected as it is filled with twists and ironies.

"It is a very unusual story and covers many human emotions and ethical questions. It tackles issues of human rights, child protection, social services and civil liberty."

The book is available from Stephen's Bookshop, Monmouth.
