THE A466 between Chepstow and Tintern could be closed for up to eight weeks because of roadworks.

The proposed closure is set to be implemented at the Livox Quarry site from 12th February.

A spokesman for Monmouthshire County Council said that the work is to minimise landslip and rockfalls by carrying out ‘discreet scaling’ on the rock face. The first week will see the trees removed and then work will start on making the rock face secure.

Signs at Chepstow and Monmouth will direct through traffic via the B4293 Trellech/ Devauden, and Tintern will be accessed via Trellech Road, Bargains Wood road from Trellech.

The closure plan is still to be approved so some changes could occur.

Welsh Water will also be carrying out work on the A466 between 14 January and 11th of February but that will only be on the Sundays during that period.
