A sensible decision
MADAM,
If the £85K 106 monies was not to be used to refurbish the present play area, it would have had to be returned to the housing developer and the town would have lost it. Fortunately, Monmouth Town Planning Committee and Monmouth Town Council decided to follow its original plan, to use the 106 monies here in Monmouth for the benefit of our children.
In the last few weeks the national newspapers have highlighted the fact that diesel cars emit more and worse toxic omissions than lorries. Therefore putting a very costly new play area in the close vicinity of the five public car parks which line the rear of the shops in Monnow Street would have been very bad indeed for our children’s health.
If a change was to be made and of course lose the 106 monies, Vauxhall Fields should have been chosen. An accessible car park, small enough to use by parents while supervising their children’s activities and in full view so that the children were safe and far enough away from heavy traffic.
Thank goodness the Monmouth Town Council made such a sensible decision.
