THE trial of an Undy man charged with 10 counts of sexual offences against a child started this week.

Newport Crown Court heard on Tuesday 10th November how the man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, allegedly carried out a string of sexual assaults, including rape, on a child under the age of 13.

The man has also been charged with possessing indecent images of children.

One photograph was classed under Category A, the most serious form of child abuse, and nine images of children were classed under Category C.

The material was found on two laptops in the defendant’s house which were seized by police.

The man has also been charged with intentionally causing a child to watch or look at an image of sexual activity.

The court heard evidence from the victim who said he felt “confused” at what was happening and felt “weird”.

“He used to say it wasn’t wrong what we were doing,” said the boy. “He acted nice around me and bought me stuff.”

It is claimed the abuse started in 2007 when the child was nine and ended in 2011 when he turned 12.

In a police interview the child was asked what kind of effect the abuse had on him. He said: “I think about it most of the time.

“It makes me feel sick”.

The trial is ongoing at Newport Crown Court and is expected to last four to five days.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to all the charges on Thursday 25th June.

He has been released on bail.
