A TEAM from Monmouth Fire Station chose the Two River Meadow to spend their voluntary community effort, last Saturday 4th June.

Armed with shears they cut the grass at the view of the Wye or the Monnow, ensuring each seat was clear of any vegetation.

Then they went on to make sure that the paths from the kissing gate was clear and the picnic tables accessible. They even offered to return to repair a badly vandalised one.

Terry Christopher, chair of the Two River Meadow Volunteers spoke for the whole group.

“We are so grateful for the team offering to help here. It’s especially great when you already do such essential work for the community in your profession. Our volunteers have monthly working parties though out the year, but the more local people who are involved the better. This unique area where the Monnow joins the Wye belongs to everyone.”

Last month Wyesham Beavers helped out the group and Year 10 students are including the project in their Welsh Baccalaureate project.

Many of the Firestation team had not realised the area was a public space. They complimented the Two River Meadow volunteers on maintaining the area to encourage wildlife and bio diversity while ensuring the Two River Meadow is accessible to locals and visitors too.

“More local people should know about it,” they said.
