THE SARA team at Beachley was delighted to be presented with three portable Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) by South Wales Fire and Rescue Service on 1st September.

Steve Cooper, Station Manager at Chepstow Fire Station, explained that they have recently been issued with new units which are compatible with their enhanced role, working alongside the Ambulance Service, so the previous versions are no longer used by the Fire and Rescue Service.

The SARA team will be able to use these units as part of the casualty rescue equipment, and also as part of the medical kits which they carry when they provide safety cover for events such as the Severn Bridge Half Marathon or the Monmouth Aquathon.

Mervyn Fleming, Commander at SARA’s Beachley and Newport Lifeboat and Rescue Stations said: “As a charity SARA depends on donations. We are extremely grateful to our colleagues in the Fire and Rescue Service for this equipment which will help us to save lives on the estuary, rivers and in the local community”.
