Police raided a flat in Worcester Street last Thursday (12th September) after information led them to believe it was being used as a drugs den.

With no response at the door, police officers broke into the flat but found no-one at home. The Beacon was allowed to accompany officers as they searched the flat and saw them identify bicycles they believed had been reported stolen and took them away. A specialist company then sealed the door with a metal shutter.Sergeant Stephen James of Gwent Police told the Beacon: "We were made aware there were a number of drug transactions taking place at this address. This has been backed up by a recent warrant we have executed where various items were found and the resident is currently in the middle of being investigated for drug offences."The flat will remain closed for three months and anyone attempting to enter the premises is liable to a fine or imprisionment.
