Drinkers at a Monmouth pub saw blue lights when a man was seen with what looked like a gun on Sunday 26th January.
Witnesses say there were three cars, with six police, armed with short guns that were bigger than pistols.
Gwent Police issued a statement saying they received a call from a member of the public who reported seeing a man with a gun at Robin Hood Inn on Sunday shortly before 10pm.
“Officers carried out enquiries at a number of addresses and arrested a 38-year-old man from Monmouth on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm.
“He remained in police custody but has since been released under investigation. Armed police attended as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of the public and officers”.
