GWENT Police are appealing for information following a robbery at the Betfred betting office on Caerleon Road, Newport, which took place at approximately 9.20pm on Saturday (18th June).

The offender is described as a white man, of medium to stocky build, possibly in his 40’s, wearing a dark coloured hooded top.

The man entered the store just prior to closing time armed with what is described as a silver handgun. He demanded money from the staff in the store before leaving with a quantity of cash from the till. Whilst the incident was extremely distressing for the people working at the store, no one was seriously injured.

The investigation into this incident is continuing and increased patrols are in the area at present to reassure the community.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone who can help to identify the offender and would ask anyone with information to call 101 quoting incident number 612 of the 18th June.
