MAGOR brewery is to take on 53 new full time jobs as part of a plan of “sustainable future growth.”

Last week, AB InBev announced the new full time jobs at its Magor brewery, adding to the 308 people that are currently employed by the firm. Opened in 1979, Magor is AB InBev’s largest brewery in the UK and makes some of the world’s most popular beers including Budweiser and Stella Artois.

The new jobs include technical services, bottling operators, quality technicians, schedulers and warehouse operators and play an important part in the company’s plans for sustainable future growth.

The brewery produces approximately 792 million pints of beer per year.

AB InBev already employs around 308 people at the brewery which also indirectly supports approximately 6,468 jobs. This figure is increasing to 7,581 with this new jobs announcement.

It is thought that each new job in brewing generates 18 jobs in pubs, one job in agriculture, one job in the supply chain and one job in retail.

Since the brewery’s first pint of beer was poured, over 20 billion pints have been brewed at Magor.

Jeff Woods, regional officer at Unite the Union’s South East Wales Office said: “This is very good news for our employees and the South East Wales area, which bucks the recent trend in Newport where sadly job losses have been announced.

“I am particularly pleased with this announcement as I am very well aware of all the hard work both management and employees at Magor have contributed to making the brewery a success.”

Newport East MP Jessica Morden said: “The Magor brewery is one of the biggest employers in the area, and it is fantastic to hear this announcement of important new jobs for the region.”

Tony Monteiro, brewery manager at AB InBev UK’s Magor brewery, said: “This announcement is a great milestone for the brewery and reflects the great work of all our Magor employees over the past few years.”
