The year started very much as it was going to continue. There was 29.9 mm of rain on 1st January, the tenth wettest January day since records were started at Cornwall House in 1929.

Total January rainfall was 223.4 mm, more than two and a half times the average for the month of 87 mm, the wettest January on record and the second wettest for any month.

February rainfall was 201 mm, more than three times the average for the month of 62.1 mm, the wettest February on record and the seventh wettest for any month.

On 4th March there was no measurable rain for the first time in 2014. This ended a period of 82 successive days of measurable rain. The previous record was 42 days of measurable rain ending on 10th December 2009.

The driest month of the year was September with only 7.6 mm of rain - the third driest September on record.

Total rainfall for the year was 1126.8mm, the fourth wettest year on record.

Since 1999 there have been eight of the ten wettest years on record and three of the eight driest years on record.
