Welsh Cricket Cup Round 1 - Blackwood Town CC (231-9) lost to Chepstow CC (232-2) by eight wickets

CHEPSTOW CC progressed to the second round of the Welsh Cricket Cup on Sunday, beating Blackwood Town CC by eight wickets.

The result came after Chepstow suffered a two-wicket defeat at Croesyceiliog CC the day before, following a bad day at the office for the openers.

Unusually Chepstow’s first three wickets fell very cheaply with Carwyn James and Mitchell Harris returning without troubling the scorers and opener Jamie Rayner managing a meagre five runs.

Dave Teague (41) and skipper Jason Dobbie (17) steadied the ship but it took a spirited 37 by Tyler Morgan-Huggett and an unbeaten 51 by Malith Madurasinghe to lift them close enough to make the final overs interesting.

After defeat on the opening day of the season, there was better news for Chepstow when they travelled to Blackwood CC.

Jason Dobbie took four wickets for 21 runs and there were two wickets apiece for Carwyn James (2-34) and Dave Teague (2-49) as Blackwood set a total of 231-9, a target which Chepstow passed without breaking sweat.

James (52) and Dobbie (39) were the only wickets to fall to home bowler Gareth Berry and Mitchell Harris top-scored with 69 not out and Teague weighed in with an unbeaten 44.
