An inflatable challenge in memory of popular teacher

By Monmouthshire Beacon/Chepstow Beacon in Local People

STAFF and colleagues of a much-loved teacher are taking on a 5K inflatable challenge in her memory.

Helen Mason became a popular Foundation Phase teacher and friend to many at Overmonnow school but in December 2015 was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Sadly she passed away in January of this year following a brave fight against the disease.

36 colleagues have volunteered to take part in the inflatable 5k race in Chepstow, all of “various abilities shapes and sizes and degrees of fitness in aid of cancer research” said one of the organisers, Donna Browne.

The group are grateful to Melvin Green of Jolly Clothing who supplied all 36 t-shirts free of charge with the Overmonnow logo and a picture of Helen.

They also wish to thank James Symonds, the graphic designer, who helped out with the t-shirt design.

Helen, who was born Helen Horseman in Welsh Newton, was 49 when she passed away and the challenge is taking place three days before what would have been her 50th birthday.

Her husband Andrew and son Rhys will be coming to watch the group.
